A cycling tour between Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, NS, showcasing local gastronomic experiences.

Kick-start the spring, pairing wonderful local food with some of the best cycling routes in Nova Scotia. Participants can choose between the Rum Runners Trail or scenic coastal roadways around Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, customizing their route anywhere from 25km-104km. New this year – add on a ride to Indian Point along the shore-line and returning along Dynamite Trail. (a 21km loop). Whether you are a seasoned road cyclist, recreational rider or new to cycling, there is a route perfect for you, your family and friends. The tour will feature the best in locally-crafted food  throughout the day, departing Mahone Bay at 10am, lunch in Lunenburg at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic, time to explore shopping in Lunenburg before returning to Mahone Bay. After your ride – the wrap up party in Mahone Bay from 3-5pm features an evolving sweet and savory menu of samples from local restaurants, Cafes, Salt Box Brewing Company, Ironworks Distillery, Petite Riviere Winery and more. Special participant rates for accommodation, local restaurants and shops are available all weekend… including a $109 rate at Oak Island Resort. “Enjoy the day and plan to stay!!”

Registration/Check-in:
Mahone Bay Centre, 8:30– 9:45am
Ride Start Time: 10am
Lunch at Fisheries Museum: Served 11:30am – 1pm
Wrap-up Party at Mahone Bay Centre: 3pm – 5pm
Parking: Available at the Mahone Bay Centre, Public Parking lots on Pond and Clairmont Streets or on-street parking.

Your registration ($45 to May 18th/ on-site $50) includes your choice of 4 routes from 25-104km, entrance to the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic with lunch of seafood chowder or vegetarian carrot & ginger soup, home-made bread and molasses cookies to top it all off,  served on-site by the Old Fish Factory and paired with sampling from North Mountain Coffee and Terra Beata Juices. Returning to the Mahone Bay Centre after your ride, for the wrap-up party with music from the Hoppin’ Fiddles; food and drink sampling and special offers at exclusive marketplace featuring: Ironworks Distillery, Petite Rivière Winery, Saltbox Brewing Company, Bicycle Lunchbox Cafe,  Oak Island Resort, The Tea Brewery, Biscuit Eater Cafe and Bookstore, Haskapa, Mateus Bistro,  Mug and Anchor Pub, Boulangerie la Vendeene, Confections by Sarah Batten, Reccardo’s Pizza, Joanne’s Deli and more.  All participants will also receive the exclusive coupon booklet with offers and discounts from participating partners in Mahone Bay and Lunenburg and top it all off with your very own souvenir Mug!

Choose Your Route:
Please let us know which route you would prefer to ride. This will help us organize volunteers and set timing for the day. Depending on how fast and far you like to ride and whether you would like to shop or take in the optional tours in Lunenburg, choose the route you plan to ride.

Map – Option A: Trail Route, 25 km

Along the Bay to Bay Trail, arriving in Lunenburg at the Old Railway Station, then ride over to the Fisheries Museum for lunch on streets of Lunenburg. Return along the same route. This option will give participants lots of time to visit historic Lunenburg, and explore the Fisheries Museum.

Map –  Option B: Trail and Scenic Road Route, 25 km

Road route along Mader’s Cove, Prince’s Inlet, Sunnybrook, Second Peninsula Rd to Lunenburg for lunch. Returning along the Bay to Bay Trail to Mahone Bay Centre for Wrap up party at 3pm. This option will give participants lots of time to visit historic Lunenburg, and explore the Fisheries Museum.

Map –  Option C: Road Route – Medium, 60 km

Road route along Mader’s Cove, Prince’s Inlet, Sunnybrook riding to the end of Second Peninsula to Bachman’s Beach & Steven’s Farm, then back to Lunenburg for lunch. After lunch, ride to Blue Rocks and return, back onto Second Peninsula Road, then Prince’s Inlet, Sunnybrook, Mader’s Cove and back to Mahone Bay for Wrap-up party at 3pm. This route will allow participants an hour or so to explore Lunenburg.

Map –  Option D: Road Route – Long, 104 km

Road route along Mader’s Cove, Prince’s Inlet, Sunnybrook riding to the end of Second Peninsula to Bachman’s Beach & Steven’s Farm, then out to Blue Rocks via Back Harbour and return to Lunenburg for lunch. After lunch ride through Mason’s Beach, on to Rose Bay, Left at Rose Bay to visit Hirtle’s Beach then on to Riverport and Lahave. Turn at Grimm Road, back to Lunenburg, return to Mahone Bay via Second Peninsula Road, Prince’s Inlet, Mader’s Cove for Wrap-up Party starting at 3pm. This route will be more about the ride and less about the visiting…enjoying lunch and the wrap-up party.

NEW this year: If you would like to add a little extra challenge to your 25km or 60km route, consider riding the 21km loop to Indian Point along the scenic shore-line and returning along the Dynamite Trail.
